Welcome

This program is 18 hours long and divided into several sessions.  The program is held each winter at Edward Hospital, Naperville, IL or at the Edward-Plainfield Outpatient Center, Plainfield, IL.  Students are provided a review of the basic and clinical medical sciences at the level of an advanced high school student.  At each session, the students are divided into small groups. Each group performs a specific set of medical skills that correlate with the lectures for that session.  At the last session, parents are invited to see their students in action, performing the procedures they learned during the program and hearing a review of the medical school admissions process.  The program then ends with a graduation ceremony including the presentation of certificates.  The program is not appropriate for high school freshmen or students interested in the allied health fields, like nursing, veterinary medicine, or dentistry.  There is no fee to apply.

This program is designed for talented high school students who have taken several advanced science and math classes.  The class is best suited for high school juniors.  Advanced sophomores and seniors are also considered. There is no minimum GPA requirement  High school freshman are not considered for the program.  Acceptance into the program is competitive and depends on an evaluation of your application and a personal interview, just like real medical schools.  The application contains an essay, teacher recommendation, a review of the  student’s science and math classes and the student’s overall GPA.  After completed applications are reviewed, select students will be granted a formal interview.  A check for our program fee of $300 is collected from all students interviewed. If a student is not accepted, the program fee check is destroyed. The program fee covers our expenses After all interviews are completed, a select group of students are accepted into the program. A response letter to each applicant is sent by email and those students accepted are posted online.

Our next Mini Medical School for High School Students will be held each Sunday from January 22, 2011 to February .  The deadline for us to receive a complete application was October 28, 2011.  If you applied, you will get a response by email by Dec 1.
