A 20 hour competitive program for junior, senior and advanced sophomore students
This program provides a review of the basic and clinical medical sciences and is
complemented with hands on experiences.
This program is designed for students who are serious about pursuing a career in
medicine. The application for this program will be posted online at this site the
last week of August.
A one day 8 hour non-competitive program for any high school student who wants to
explore the field of medicine. This program provides a very fast overview of a typical
medical school with an emphasis on the clinical sciences. Students will get a hands
on experience through rotating in groups. Our next program will be on June 22, 2013.

This program provides college premeds an overview of medical school. The program
is 4 hours long and is tailored to the needs of the premed. Students download a
handout a couple of weeks before the program and then experience a fast paced lecture
series with an emphasis on clinical aspects of medicine. The lecture is followed
by a series of hands on experiences. The program ends with a brief review of the
medical school admissions process, discussion of alternative health fields and a
question and answer period. For those premeds who have less time, Dr. Rubin offers
lectures on a numerous subjects ranging from interview skills to the changes in the
new 2015 MCAT.
The field of Podiatry is not well known among pre-health professional students. To
raise awareness of the field and to encourage students to consider a career in podiatry,
Dr. Rubin has been offering a Mini Podiatric Medical School at Barry University’s
School of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Rubin’s son Jason graduated from this
school in May 2012. This program is 4 hours long and provides an overview of Podiatric
Medicine and Surgery including 10 hands on experiences ranging from taking vital
signs to casing fractured ankles. This program is free of charge to anyone willing
to travel to Miami. Our last program was on April 20, 2013.

Ira S. Rubin,M.D., Ph.D.
is an attending pediatrician at Naperville Pediatric Associates since 1988. He received his B.A. in Biology from New York University, his Ph.D. and M.D. from the University of Chicago where he also completed his pediatric residency. Dr. Rubin is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
