Information
Dr. Rubin’s Mini Medical School was conceived and designed in 2004 by Ira S. Rubin, M.D., Ph.D., of Naperville Pediatric Associates, with the help of his son, Zachary Rubin, who at the time was a student at Naperville Central High School.

For the first two years, the program was run exclusively for students at Naperville Central and then was opened to students from both Naperville School districts and finally, in 2008, the program was opened to any student willing to travel to Naperville.  During the early years, our graduates helped shape our program by providing explicit feedback which we used to shape our programs and made us a success.  Subsequently, Dr. Rubin began other unique programs initially as a result of student requests for summer opportunities and later to help the parents of his pediatric practice.

Dr. Rubin received his B.A. in Biology from New York University, and then attended The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine where he received his Ph.D. and M.D. He then completed a residency in Pediatrics at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics.  Dr. Rubin’s son, Zachary, is a medical student at Case Western Reserve University, Clevelland, Ohio. Zachary was graduated Summa Cum Laude from their Pre-Professional Scholars Program in Medicine. Dr. Rubin has an older son, Jason, who graduated from The College of The University of Chicago, and now attends the Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery.

Dr. Rubin runs his programs with his wife, Susan, and Zachary as a community service project. Most of our programs are held at Edward Hospital, Naperville, IL. Edward provides clerical support and space.  Each year several Mini Medical School graduates voluntarily serve as teaching assistants.  We thank those students for their time, effort and support. Dr. Rubin and Edward Hospital do not earn any money running these programs.
